Abu Salem, underworld don and terrorist who is responsible for the murder of hundreds of innocent people in the Mumbai blasts of 1993 wants to join politics.
Mumbai/Lucknow, Sept 04: Mafia don Abu Salem, lodged in a Mumbai jail after his extradition from Portugal, wants to contest upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Salem’s lawyer Harjot Singh said in Mumbai on Monday that his client wanted to contest the assembly polls due early next year and said “we will soon seek court’s permission in this regard”.
Meanwhile, Salem’s brother in Azamgarh said that his brother would contest the coming assembly polls from Mubarakpur, the place Salem hails from. He added that talks are on with several political parties, and in case he (Salem) fails to get a ticket from any party, he would contest as an independent candidate.
He might contest as a candidate of Apna Dal Party. Apna dal who???
Lucknow, Sep 5: Having supported gangster Bablu Srivastava in the last Lok Sabha elections, Apna Dal is “not averse” to giving party tickets to underworld dons Abu Salem and Dawood Ibrahim for the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
“We are not averse to giving tickets to criminals. If they leave the path of crime and want to contest the Assembly election, the Apna Dal welcomes them,” its President Sonelal Patel said at a function here to release a book, ‘Unfulfilled Dreams’ by Srivastava.
He said they would give the party ticket for Mubarakpur Assembly constituency in Azamgarh district to Salem if it was approached.
On Dawood Ibrahim, Patel said “if he will leave the world of crime, the party could consider his candidature as well. The name of our party is Apna Dal and we are ready to help all those elements who want to leave crime and do social service by entering politics”.
We should not be too harsh on this Apna Dal party. We all know very well that every political party in India has criminals in its ranks.Atleast this guy is being straightforward that he just wants some cheap publicity and is not moralising like the Congress, BJP, SP, BSP, RJD, CPI(M), JD(S), DMK, AIADMK etc…. . Infact Abu Salem might finally succeed in obtaining support from any of the above established parties. Our politicians will lick even Abu Salem’s and Dawood’s boots if they feel that it will get them some votes.
