There seems to be a panic going around the Indian Blogosphere that Blogspot has been blocked. But as of yet i can still access Blogspot from my BSNL connection. The ISP’s who are supposed to have blocked the access to the Blogspot domain as of now are Airtel Broadband, Reliance Infocom, MTNL, Star Hathway and Tata Internet Services.
The reason being dished out by the Government according to a update by a blogger on Indiauncut is that “ISPs are being instructed to ‘control’ access to blogspot. It seems that some blogs are being used by some terror units (read SIMI) to communicate. There is a crack down in place. IP numbers are being physically located and identified. All should come back to normal once this operation is over”.
I think the situation is going to become clearer by the end of this evening or by early morning tomorrow. As of now BSNL, a state owned entity has not blocked Blogspot or any other Blogs. So let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope this Government has not joined India into the ranks of Banana republics like China, Pakistan and others who indulge in such childish censorship.
Here is the Wiki page set up by the Indian bloggers on this issue. But as of know i feel there is nothing to panic here. Let us wait for more info. Perhaps the Government is really doing its job like it has claimed above and going after some terrorist elements. Will keep this updated.
Update– I can still access Blogspot, typepad and all other Blogs from my BSNL connection as of Tuesday morning 9.30am when i’am updating this. I don’t think we have joined the esteemed ranks of Banana republics like China, Pakistan, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran etc… yet.
Looks like the ‘old’ officials do not realise what they have done. They are still thinking that Blogspot is just one website. They do not realise that by blocking Blogspot they have cutoff access to 5 million websites. God, how dumb can these people get why don’t they retire and go play with their grandchildren. They are horribly out of date with modern technology.
Latest Update:Still Blocked. Sorry for the false alarm.
